Germany is in a historic election year. With federal elections scheduled for September, six state-elections will set the stage for a fundamental restructuring of political power. Who will succeed chancellor Angela Merkel? Will the rise of the Green party continue? Will Germany's embattled left find its footing? Will the right-wing populist Alternative für Deutschland gain new momentum? And how will this impact Germany’s place in Europe and beyond?
