The upcoming change in the White House comes with the prospect to revive the Iran nuclear deal. After all, as candidate, Joe Biden expressed his desire to re-join the agreement – provided that Iran fully implements it again, too. There are a number of hurdles in the way of the intended return, however. These include Iranian nuclear activity inconsistent with the nuclear deal, the organization of effective sanctions-relief as well as the question of how to deal with sunset clauses under which key provisions of the nuclear deal will expire in the 2020s.

Our panel discussion offers European perspectives on these challenges, including ideas on how transatlantic cooperation could facilitate reviving the nuclear deal. The discussion draws on our latest FES publication A Return to Diplomacy: The Iran Nuclear Deal and a Democratic White House.

Speakers:

  • Ellie Geranmayeh, European Council on Foreign Relations, London
  • Cornelius Adebahr, Carnegie Europe, Berlin
  • Kelsey Davenport, Arms Control Association, Washington, DC
  • David Jalilvand, Orient Matters, Berlin (Moderator)

This event will take place via Zoom. Link will be in the registration confirmation.
