Security in an Insecure World: Germany's Defense Pivot
Vladimir Putin’s brutal war against Ukraine caused a remarkable pivot in Germany’s defense posture. With the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Germany had to rethink its security and defense policy and the Scholz government acted quickly: The so-called “Zeitenwende” was an acknowledgement of the new realities in Europe. For the first time, the German government is also developing a comprehensive security strategy.
Eight months after chancellor Olaf Scholz proclaimed the ‘Zeitenwende’, we want to assess Germany’s defense pivot with key policymakers and experts: What does the pivot mean for Germany’s allies in Europe and the US? And how will it (re-)shape transatlantic relations?
Please join us at the National Press Club (529 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20045) as we hear from a distinguished panel featuring
Siemtje Möller, German Deputy Secretary of Defense and Member of the German Parliament
